The sky is blue, the sun shining bright, the birds are singing and the sweet breath of spring bushes on Grady avenue are ready to bloom. All branches of our army and navy services are making great progress against the enemy. American production is increasing. Victory seems nearer. With a song in our hearts let us work harder to bring victory soon er for the sake of those now at the front, for those soon to go, and in memory of those who have already given their lives. BUY WAR BONDS. Friends of John C. Ferneding, son of Mrs. Kath erine Cudahy Ferneding, will be interested to know that he was ■ corated recently by Admiral Wimitz for bravery in action dur ing the Battle of Midway . . . The Russians claim the capture of over 300,000 Axis troops and much j equipment .... The Ohio River ] valley is flooded again by heavy j rains. Thousands driven from 1 their homes .... The 5 per cent Victory Tax begins today .... Troy Walker is having his Bulletin sent to Laurinburg, N. C. . . . A large crowd attended the New Year’s Eve dance at Sunnydale last night. Many out-of-town visitors made up table parties all over the house .... Old or new copies of The Tryon Daily Bulletin for sale at Sc each. Miss Margaret Lincoln Weds Lieutenant Thomas E. Bates Miss Margaret Hartridge Lin coln, daughter of the Reverend Dr. and Mrs. C. Arthur Lincoln, be came the bride of Lieutenant Thomas Edward Bates, United States Army, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred C. Bates, on New Year’s Eve in the Erskine Memorial Congregational church. The cere mony was performed by the bride’s father. The church was decorated with evergreens, poinsettias, and white branched candelabra. Mr. Edwin Beach sang two solos, “Within the Garden of My Heart” by Ruth Lincoln Boan, and the nuptial hymn, “0 Perfect Love” preceding the ceremony. The traditional wedding marches were played by Mrs. E. E. Missildine, organist. The bride, who was given in marriage .by her brother-in-law, Mr. C. E. Bittner, of Flushing, N. Y., wore her mother’s wedding dress, fashioned of ivory liberty | satin with a high neck and Irish j yoke, full elbow-length sleeves, and a full skirt ending in a short train. Her tulle veil of finger-tip length fell from a fitted cap of Irish lace. She carried a prayer book with a shower of bouvardia and a white orchid. The prayer i book belonged t-o her great-great grandmother for whom she was named. The bride was attended by her three sisters, Miss Barbara Lin coln, of Winston-Salem, as maid of honor; Mrs. C. E. Bittner, of Flushing, N. Y., and Mrs. B. Franklin Boan of Newport News, Va., as matrons-of-honor. All three attendants wore similar Continued on Back Page_
